The 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen openes tonight.

The word “Universiade” is a proper noun made of “University” and “Olympiad”, which specifically refers to the worldwide Olympic Games that are held only for the undergraduates. The Universiade, generally known as “small Olympic Games”, was first held in 1959 and held every two years. The Universiade is the world’s large-scale integrated Games second only to the Olympic Games, receiving a great deal of attention from every country in the world and attracting numerous outstanding athletes of the world to participate in the game. And many world records have been broken during the summer universiades.

The southern China city of Shenzhen is a busy port and one of the fastest growing cities in the world. The city has devoted great energy and passion in organizing this event for the whole world, as well as building 12 new stadiums to facilitate the Universiade. Certainly, the world is about to witness a splendid sports event in the foreseeable future.
