Christmas is just like a new beginning. It is the day that marks the birth of Lord Jesus Christ who came to earth to protect mankind and make our world a better place to live in. Christmas Eve is said to be the day just before Christmas Day. This is considered as the widely celebrated festival commemorating the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. Christmas Eve Celebration, in western culture is celebrated on 24th December. Still, the Serbian, Russian, Coptic, Georgian Orthodox Churches, Macedonian and Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem as well us the Julian calendar. As per the current Julian calendar the day is 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar and the Christmas Eve celebrations for the adherents of those particular Churches overlaps with January 6th of the next year in the Gregorian calendar.

The day prior to December 25, commonly known as the Christmas Eve, is a mark to begin the Christmas season. December 24 is marked as the day for Christmas Eve celebration when midnight mass celebration is conducted in the name of Lord Jesus. In the Western Christian churches, the Christmas vigil services are done either in the afternoons or the evenings on this day. Christmas Eve is also marked and considered as the beginning of the Christmas day.

Through out the world, on this Christmas Eve all the churches celebrate their midnight mass. However due to time restrictions today most of the churches decided to celebrate the services and masses in the late evenings. On the Christmas Eve, many catholic churches also organize a candle service. Some of the churches take initiatives on this Christmas Eve to organize skits portraying the nativity scenes. No one remains behind, even the protestant churches organizes prayer services.

Christmas tree and Christmas cake plays a very important role on this Christmas Eve. Especially Christmas tree is said to be the utmost joy for children. On this special day, the Christmas tree is marked in its glory, and then the Yule log is somberly lighted in many lands. As soon as it is over, the most unique Christmas repast takes place. It is also a special day for the Christian family reunion also to make the beginning of the Christmas Day.
