Mickey Mouse And Donald Duck

In 1923 Walt Disney started his movie studio in Los Angeles. Mickey Mouse first appeared on the screen in 1928. Over the next few years the public was introduced to a number of Mickey’s “family” – his dog Pluto, his pals Goofy and Donald Duck, and his girl friend Minnie.

History of Mickey Mouse

According to Disney World, Mickey Mouse’s official birthday is November 18, 1928 when he made his film debut in Steamboat Willie at the Colony Theatre in New York City. This was the first Disney cartoon with Mickey Mouse in it released. However, the first cartoon starring Mickey Mouse was Plane Crazy in 1928, it was the third Disney cartoon released. Mickey Mouse has since starred in over 120 Disney cartoons.

The Mickey Mouse Image

Mickey Mouse’s image is the most reproduced in the world. Over 7,500 items bear his likeness. Jesus is number two, and Elvis is number three. Mickey Mouse’s likeness was conceived by Walt Disney and first drawn together with artist Ub Iwerks.

Donald Duck

Can you imagine childhood without Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, or Goofy? Donald Duck is a white anthropomorphic duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He usually wears a sailor shirt, cap, and a red or black bow tie, but no trousers (except when he goes swimming). Donald’s most famous trait is his easily provoked and occasionally explosive temper.

Donald Duck has a good heart and always has good intentions. Well, almost always. Actually, it’s his second or third intentions that are the good ones, but by the time they surface Donald’s already off and running in the wrong direction. He refuses to let anyone or anything stand in his way. It doesn’t matter how much humiliation the world dishes out to him, Donald will take it and come back for more. He’s a loser, not a quitter, and he’ll go down fighting. This is a duck with one short fuse, and an amazing (if unintelligible) command of language, and when things don’t go right, he goes ballistic. Yet after the storm is over and the tantrum is through, when faithful Daisy soothes his brow or his conscience finally catches up with him, even Donald can admit that there must be a better way. If only he could figure out what it is.
